Ah, the proud father of the bride! President Bush looks just as he should: like the happy, handsome daddy he is, giving away his little girl, all grown up! (They do look alike, don’t they?) Where has the time gone?!
Politics aside, it looks like the Bush family knows how to throw a wedding! Tucked away at the 1,600-acre family ranch in Crawford, Texas, Jenna Bush (26) married Henry Hager (30) whom the President calls “a really good guy.”
More than 200 friends and family members attended the outdoor ceremony on Saturday night, which took place at near a lake, as the sun set, before a cross built of Texas limestone. The President called it “spectacular.” Dinner and dancing followed under a tent, entertained by the Tyrone Smith Revue, a 10-piece party band from Nashville. Smith described the evening as a “get down” party.
Jenna Bush makes a glowing and gorgeous bride, and I don’t even have to say how much I love her Oscar de la Renta gown (embroidered organza and matte beading with a stunningly simple silhouette and chapel-length train… ). Love the way she had her hair in loose waves entwined with white flowers.
America has watched Jenna grow up into what CNN describes as “gregarious and fun-loving” — like her father, the president. Her “mischievous streak” has given way to a more polished, mature woman who worked as a schoolteacher, an intern for UNICEF, and has authored two children’s books, including one with her mother.
The Associated Press quotes Millie Martin Bratten, editor-in-chief of BRIDES magazine, as saying that the wedding was a “letdown for some who craved a Princess Diana-style event.” But she said Jenna’s private, classy wedding might even set a trend for future presidential weddings. Bratten foresees future first family weddings that “mix protocol and formality with creative individual touches from the bride.”
